BriarPatch to celebrate healthy cows

An event dedicated to the benefits of eating locally raised free range beef is scheduled later this month at the BriarPatch Co-op.

The natural food store will hold a “Better Beef Blast” from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 13 at their store, 290 Sierra College Drive in Grass Valley.

A short film called “Meat Jim” will feature local rancher Jim Gates, owner of Nevada County Free Range Beef at 5:30 p.m. in the store’s community room.

Customers can choose from free samples fresh from the barbecue or discounted beef from the meat counter.

“We want to tell people about alternatives to beef from cattle raised in inhumane, large-scale ‘factory farms,'” said Jeff Molsberry of BriarPatch’s Meat Department.

The store carries beef from three ranches that do not use hormones or antibiotics.
