Brian Ganz to perform for Twin Cities Sunday
Pianist Brian Ganz returns Sunday to Grass Valley in the first performance of the Twin Cities Concert Association’s 58th season.
Sunday’s repertoire includes Chopin’s “Waltz in E flat, Op. 18,” “Waltz in f minor, Op. 70, No. 2,” “Etude in A flat, Op. 10, No. 10,” “Etude in f minor, Op. 25, No. 2,” “Prelude in C Major, Op. 28, No. 1,” “Prelude in c minor, Op. 28, No. 4,” “Prelude in A Major, Op. 28, No. 7,” “Prelude in f-sharp minor, Op. 28, No. 8,” “Etude in c-sharp minor, Op. 25, No. 7,” “Etude in a minor, Op. 25, No. 11,” “Waltz in c-sharp minor, Op. 64, No. 2,” “Waltz in A flat, Op. 42” and “Sonata No. 3 in b minor, Op. 58.”
Along with sharing first grand prize in the 1989 Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud International Piano Competition in Paris, Ganz was acknowledged for “best recital round of the competition” and “best performance of the required work.” That same year, he received a Beethoven Fellowship by the American Pianists Association. In 1991, Ganz won third prize in the Queen Elisabeth of Belgium International Piano Competition.
He has soloed with orchestras such as the St. Louis Symphony, the National Symphony, the Baltimore Symphony, the Buffalo Philharmonic, the National Chamber Orchestra, L’Orchestre National de Belgique, L’Orchestre Lamoureux, the City of London Sinfonia and L’Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo.
Currently, Ganz is musician-in-residence and a piano faculty member at St. Mary’s College of Maryland and an adjunct faculty member at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore.
