BREAKING NEWS: Bridgeport fire quickly contained

An afternoon fire near Bridgeport in the French Corral area was contained at aproximately three acres around 6:15 p.m.

Initially reported around 6 p.m., the fire burned only vegetation, said California Department of Forestry Public Information Officer Tina Rose. No injuries or damages to structures were reported.

The fire was started by a car’s exhaust, something that Rose said people can help prevent.

“We need to keep our cars well-maintained,” Rose said.

Responding to the fire were units from the CDF, the North San Juan Fire Protection District and a Forest Service helicopter from White Cloud.
