“Seabiscuit: An American Legend”

by Laura Hillenbrand

Random House

“Seabiscuit” is a true story about a race horse that became famous during the Depression. He was so popular during that time, people would travel hundreds of miles to watch him race. There wasn’t a lot of entertainment that people could afford, but that didn’t stop them from going to the racetrack where Seabiscuit was racing.

This book isn’t just about Seabiscuit. It also tells the story of the owner, trainer and jockey, the ups and downs of their lives, and how they all came together with Seabiscuit.

I would recommend this book to anyone, whether they are a horse lover like me or just want to read and enjoy a wonderful story about a great horse. Laura Hillenbrand is a great storyteller and when she writes another book, without a doubt, I could be first in line to buy it.

“Absolute Rage”

by Robert Tanenbaum

“Absolute Rage” is the 13th book of a series by Robert Tanenbaum. It’s a good read, but a little far-fetched. The heroes are Butch Karps and Marlene Ciampi and their remarkable family. They have been described as “the most interesting pair of characters in the suspense genre today.”

I suggest reading the series chronologically, starting with the first book, “No Lesser Plea.” I frequently, by accident, start a book that I have already read. It might take me 50 pages to realize this. Not so with Tanenbaum. I remember all his recurring characters and most of the plots. I wish I could start this series for the first time.
