Body identified as missing Nevada City woman

A body found in Nevada City this week has been identified as a 47-year-old woman who had been missing since late March.

Jill Cobbe was a native of Nevada City. She had been living at the Nevada City Motel and Apartments on Nevada Street when the manager reported her missing in late March, Lt. Ron Smith of the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office said today.

Dr. Douglas Valentine, a Grass Valley oral surgeon who does forensic dentistry work for the county, identified Cobbe using dental records, Smith said.

Cobbe apparently had been walking along a ditch and was passing through blackberry bushes when she fell into a 3-foot-deep hole, which is where her body was found Wednesday afternoon, Smith said.

“We had trouble getting in and out of there to recover her body,” Smith said.

It remains unclear what caused Cobbe’s death. However, the coroner who performed the autopsy, Dr. Don Henrikson, found no evidence of foul play, Smith said.

“There is no evidence of blunt force trauma,” he said.
