Body found off Nevada City Highway

A man in his late 40s to 50s was found dead in Nevada City Saturday afternoon.

According to 911 dispatch, after 1 p.m. Saturday a caller from the 100 block of Nevada City Highway reported he had found a body on his property.

Responding officers from both Nevada City and Grass Valley police departments located the body of the deceased male, down an embankment on the property within shrubs. The body had been there for at least four or five days and decomposition had set in at that point, making visual identification of the man difficult, according to Nevada City Police Sgt. Chad Ellis.

It is currently unknown whether the man was an area resident. An autopsy will take place in the coming week, but authorities said they are not expecting foul play to be a determining factor of the man’s death.

Updates on the story will be posted as they become available.
