Body found near Washington

A dead man was found in a vehicle amidst deep snow Sunday morning near Washington in mid-Nevada County.

Lt. Jeff Powell of the Sheriff’s Department said the 60-year-old man lives in Washington, but his name was being withheld pending notification of kin.

“There’s nothing to point to anything suspicious,” Powell said. “We don’t know why he was up there.”

Deputies got stuck in snow trying to get to the vehicle at the end of the Gaston Road grade about three miles out of Washhington, Powell said. They towed the vehicle out with the body in it to a point where they can further investigate.

If that doesn’t produce answers about the death, a coroner’s medical examination might be ordered, Powell said.
