Body found by Truckee railroad tracks

Truckee authorities have discovered the body of an 80-year-old man beside high Sierra railroad tracks, said Lt. Dan Johnston of the Truckee Police Department.

The man, who apparently was hit by an eastbound train Thursday night, was identified as Robert M. Sullivan of Homewood, a town along Lake Tahoe.

Authorities investigated after receiving a call just before 9 p.m. from an engineer of an eastbound train. He reported spotting a body alongside the tracks, Johnston said.

Investigators responded and stopped train traffic for about two hours, Johnson said. Evidence found on the scene indicated the man was hit around 6 p.m., Johnson said.
