Bodhi Busick to be joined by Jerry Garcia Band keyboardist

Bodhi Busick & The World Leaders will be joined in their reggae, funk, R&B and fusion originals by special guest Melvin Seals Jan. 23 in Nevada City.

Seals played Hammond B-3 organ and keyboards with the Jerry Garcia Band for 15 years.

Although Seals has recorded with Busick’s band for a CD to be released this spring, Jan. 23 at Cooper’s marks his first time performing with Busick. They play the next night in Placerville and then have summer dates planned.

Busick’s new band includes Marty Holland on bass, Bruce Spencer on drums and Travers Clifford on guitar and mandolin. Busick is on vocals and guitar; Seals is on the Hammond B-3 organ and vocals.

The band plays from 9:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. Admission is $5. Cooper’s is at 235 Commercial St., Nevada City. Call 265-0116 for more information.

Since the 13th annual Robert Burns Dinner and Ceilidh sponsored by the Gold Country Celtic Society in Nevada City on Jan. 24 is already sold out, names are now being added to a waiting list.

Honoring the birthday of Scotland’s Poet Laureate, the “Burns Supper” begins at 4:30 p.m. with a no-host bar at Miners Foundry Cultural Center, followed by a catered meal and entertainment by the Kindred Spirit, Ingersoll Clan trio, pipers, Scottish country dancing and a sing-along with Joe Anderson and Kelly Cherry.

Tickets are $40.

Call 272-1316 to be placed on the waiting list.
