Bluegrass to Irish tunes, plenty of music to choose from

Leftover Salmon
ALL | GrassValleyArchive

What wonderful and tempting choices Nevada County music fans must make tonight, what with two prominent musical acts playing at the same time.

The first is Leftover Salmon at the Miners Foundry Cultural Center.

Formed 11 years ago, the Colorado-based band incorporates bluegrass, Cajun, funk, Southern rock, boogie, Caribbean, Latin and jazz.

Admission to the 8 p.m. concert is $20 at the door. Tickets are at Briar Patch, Herb Shop Records and Harmony Books.

The Foundry is at 325 Spring St., Nevada City.

Call 583-2801 for more information.

Then there’s the equally entertaining Dublin singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Paul Brady at the Center for the Arts tonight.

One of the most influential figures in modern Irish music, Brady first made his reputation playing Irish traditional music with The Johnstons and Planxty. In 1981, he started writing rock and pop songs, just as successfully as his songs have been covered by Bonnie Raitt, Santana, Tina Turner, Brooks & Dunn and Maura O’Connell.

Brady’s 8 p.m. concert is $15. Tickets are at Herb Shop Records, BriarPatch, the Book Seller and at the door. The Center for the Arts is at 314 W. Main St., Grass Valley. Call 274-8384 for more details.
