Plan It Solar, a Penn Valley based company, now offers a free cost benefit analysis for solar electric systems on its Web site.

A Web site questionnaire gives Pacific Gas and Electric Co. customers a “ballpark” analysis for the cost of a solar electric system without having to visit the Penn Valley company, according to a company press release.

The questionnaire takes about five minutes to fill out, and the analysis arrives in the mail, by e-mail or fax in seven to 10 business days.

A new childcare business is set to open in downtown Nevada City next month.

Pine Mountain Playcare, 327 Alexander St., opens Aug. 13.

Karen Slattery is the teacher/director of the planned childcare operation. She has been a teacher or director in the childcare business for 18 years.

The new licensed center has room for six to eight children daily between ages 3 and 6, Slattery said.

The business is scheduled to be open from 7:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Monday through Thursday and offer programs emphasizing art, music and literature.

The Sierra Economic Development District offers business loans of up to $150,000 for equipment, inventory, supplies, furniture and vehicles.

The district recently found a need for the higher loan amount in the rural parts of the Sierra from El Dorado County to the Oregon border, the district said.

The nonprofit receives funding from public and private sources to preserve and grow jobs in Nevada, Placer, Sierra and El Dorado counties.
