Earlier this month, Multimedia artist Marc Horowitz embarked on a 2 million-plus foot, solo bicycle journey along the California coast from the Golden Gate Bridge to his home in LA to raise money to save the life of his friend Chris Vatuone.

Vatuone, a 47-year-old Grass Valley resident, was struck by an undefined illness 8 years ago, which was only recently identified as late- stage Lyme disease.

San Francisco is 2,664,000 feet from Los Angeles. Horowitz’s plan was to raise just one cent for every foot that he traveled by bike. Upon reaching his goal in LA, Horowitz hoped he could give his friend $26,640 towards his mounting medical bills.

Although the 600-mile trek by Horowitz was completed last week, the fundraising effort continues with $12,336.36 donated so far, according to the website.

All proceeds go directly to the Trust for Chris Vatuone Benefit Fund. Immediately following this project, Vatuone will begin his treatment.
