Betty VanderWende

Graveside services for Betty Frances VanderWende of Grass Valley will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the New Elm Ridge Cemetery in Grass Valley. A reception will follow at the Grass Valley Elks Lodge, 109 S. School St.

Mrs. VanderWende died Tuesday, Dec. 10, at home. She was 77.

She was born June 8, 1925, in Los Angeles, to Wendell and Enna Jean Scofield Logg. She graduated from El Monte High School in 1942. She married Peter “Van” VanderWende on Aug. 21, 1943, in Fort Pierce, Fla. She was a bookkeeper and worked side-by-side with her husband at Van’s Frame and Axle in Grass Valley for more than 30 years. In 1966, she began work as a Deputy Sheriff/Dispatcher for Nevada County. She was a member of Girl Scouts of America. She was an avid rock hound and enjoyed fishing, playing bingo and other games.



She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Daniel Rausch of El Dorado Hills; granddaughters Kristina Rausch Gee of San Luis Obispo and Katherine Rausch of El Dorado Hills; grandson, Daniel Rausch II of El Dorado Hills; and one sister.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter VanderWende on March 22; daughter, Louise VanderWende Crone on Jan. 11; and one brother.




Memorial contributions may be made to the Purple Pig Project, c/o Grass Valley Elks Lodge #538, 109 S. School St., Grass Valley 95945.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
