Betsy Lorenz

Betsy Ross Lorenz died Oct. 29, 2007, at her home in Penn Valley. She was 86.

A private family memorial will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Lorenz was born on July 4, 1921, in Morgantown, W.Va., to James and Gertrude Buchanan. She married William Lorenz in Pittsburgh, Pa., where they settled for several years and raised their family.

Upon retirement, Mrs. and Mr. Lorenz moved to Southern California, where they purchased a family resort business near Lake Arrowhead. The amusement center was operated by family members and kept them busy for many years. Mrs. Lorenz was known for her super-size cotton candy and snow cones.

After the death of her husband in 1990, Mrs. Lorenz moved to Penn Valley to be close to her family. She was a member of Eastern Star and the Grass Valley United Methodist Church. She enjoyed shopping, playing cards and attending family functions.

Mrs. Lorenz is survived by daughters Janet Sether, Sharon Salazar and Doris and husband William Graves, all of Penn Valley; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Lorenz; and son, William Lorenz Jr.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Hospice of the Foothills. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary.
