Bessie Ashmore

Bessie Fay Lynch Ashmore, 96, of Grass Valley died Tuesday, March 26.

She willed her body to the University of California at Davis Medical School 15 years ago.

Several Masses in her honor will be conducted at St. Patrick’s Church in Grass Valley.



She was born Nov. 3, 1905, in Graham, Texas, to Clara Della White and William Edmun Lynch. She married Guy LeRoy Ashmore on March 19, 1923, in Sapula, Okla.

In Grass Valley, she worked as a real estate agent for Straub Realty and then at J.C. Penney for 15 years, retiring in 1971.




She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, rock hounding and family gatherings.

She is survived by a sister in the San Francisco Bay Area; two daughters in Grass Valley and a daughter in Santa Cruz; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers; three sisters; son, Roy Sterling Ashmore; and grandson Jacob Ashmore.

Memorial contributions may be made to the U.C. Davis Medical School or the American Heart Association.
