Bernice Stillman

Memorial services for Bernice J. Stillman of Grass Valley will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Nevada City chapel of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.

Mrs. Stillman died Thursday, March 28, at home. She was 89.

She was born June 28, 1912, in Kansas City, Mo., to Benjamin and Pearl Vochatzer.

She graduated from Paseo High School in Kansas City in 1929. She married Jim Stillman on Oct. 13, 1937, in Long Beach.

She was a homemaker for 64 years. She worked for Sherman Williams Co. in Kansas City and was secretary to the president of sales for Voltee Aircraft in Downey. She also worked for the Los Angeles Times and the city of Long Beach.

She was a member of Calvary Bible Church and the Grass Valley Senior Center. She enjoyed gardening and taking care of her family and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Jim M. Stillman of Grass Valley; son, James B. Stillman of Grass Valley; daughter, Pamela L. Auld of Grass Valley; sisters Blanche, Lucille, Laura Lee, Delores and Beverly; brothers Fred, Jack and Frank; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by sisters Grace, Ruby and Dorris; and brothers Wilbur, Raymond, Benjamin and Herb.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Foothills.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
