Berkeley street poet Julia Vinograd will be one of three performers at Friday’s Nevada County Poetry Series’ reading at the Center for the Arts.

An author of 48 books, Vinograd was awarded a Pushcart Prize for her poem, “For The Young Men Who Died of AIDS,” and won an American Book Award from the Before Columbus Foundation. Vinograd received her bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley and a Master of Fine Arts from the Iowa Writers Workshop.

Also reading will be Sher Christian from Nevada County and Stephanie Freeman, a California State University at Sacramento physics undergraduate. Christian, who teaches poetry privately and through Sierra College, will be joined Friday by her husband, John, on keyboards. Freeman reads frequently in the Sacramento area.

Admission is $7 general, $5 seniors and students, $1 for anyone under 18. An open mic will be after the 7:30 p.m. readings. The center is at 314 W. Main St., Grass Valley. Call 432-8196 or 274-8384 for more information.
