Beoga riding a lively musical wave

“A stunning band. Super vocals, a terrific staccato beat to the rhythm with a real sense of style and wit. This is a major, major band to be reckoned with…. Power and nuance, humor, talent aplenty. Get ready for a long run for Beoga.” -Chicago Irish-American News

The band’s name means “lively” in Irish, and so they are. “Hot,” “dueling” and “madcap genius” all describe them, as well. Beoga is a five-piece band out of County Antrim, Ireland. One of its members is a four-time, all-Ireland bodhrán (Celtic traditional drum) champion, and The Irish Echo describes Beoga as “perhaps the most audacious band rooted in trad today,” ranking them with Irish group Grada as the two most promising bands launched in the new millennium.

Their CDs are causing waves, too. “Mischief,” released last year, received a smokin’ 9.5/10 rating from Hot Press.

While the bedrock of Beoga’s music lies firmly within the Irish tradition, the group is not afraid to incorporate other genres’ nuances into its music. Bluesy riffs, Astor Piazzola-style jazz, raunchy New Orleans jamboree vibe – all are grist for the mill.
