Private services for Ben Barr of Lancaster, S.C. were conducted.

Mr. Barr died Thursday, Aug. 17, in Lancaster, S.C. He was 88.

He was born Oct. 21, 1918, in Berkeley. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was a longtime resident of Grass Valley. He was a plumber in Grass Valley until retiring. He then worked for Yuba River Lumber Co. in Grass Valley for 10 years. He was a member of the Nevada City Elks Lodge No. 518, and the Plumbers Union No. 342 in the Bay Area. He enjoyed fishing, working on his property in Grass Valley and volunteering for the Lutz Adult Day Services before moving to South Carolina.



He is survived by his wife, T.J. Barr of Lancaster, S.C.; daughters Terry of California, and Patricia of South Carolina; son, Matthew of South Carolina; son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Peggy Keller of Grass Valley; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lutz Center Adult Day Services.
