Beatrice Catherina

Private graveside services for Beatrice Mozelle Maxey Catherina of Grass Valley will be conducted.

Mrs. Catherina died Tuesday, July 20, at home. She was 87.

She was born on Nov. 15, 1916, in Clovis, N.M., to Bessie Mae and Leslie Bates Maxey. She moved to Southern California at the age of 7 and attended Santa Ana schools. She married Joseph John Catherina in 1934. She lived in Oakdale from 1962 to 2001, and was active in the Oakdale Garden Club, as well as serving as a volunteer at the Oak Valley Hospital. She moved to Grass Valley in 2001 to be near her family. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting and swimming.



She is survived by her daughters Joyce Slocum of Fernley, Nev., and Helen Sheffer of Nevada City; grandchildren Virginia Lee of Ojai, Linda Girton of Grass Valley and Mark Sheffer of Nevada City; great-grandchildren James Nelson of Ventura, Lindsey Levitan of Sacramento, and Catherina Girton of Grass Valley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, parents, Bessie and Leslie Maxey; sisters, Faye and Ruth; and brother, William Wayne Maxey.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary.
