Beason’s rant bewildering

Supervisor Nate Beason’s recent rant about some people’s input to the Fire Plan was totally bewildering. What on earth was he referring to when he went on and on, saying stuff like, “You know, some people, and I’ll be candid, want more bites out of the apple. And two groups in the county, that don’t represent many people, who tried to sabotage this fire plan before. They put out misleading information.” (See “Nevada County Fire Plan Release Beats Harry Potter By A Day” for a more lengthy quote.) Beason didn’t give us a clue as to whom he was raving about!

Let me guess. Few people are motivated enough to endure the insufferable Board of Supervisors’ meetings, even though the issue of the Fire Plan should be an important draw. To be motivated to have input on that issue, it helps either to be the survivor of a fire or to have the expertise and ecological awareness of a biologist.

What’s the solution? Fireproof roofs, of course. Surely that must have been proposed, but I don’t even hear it being considered. On the other hand, there is a lot of talk about massive removal of trees and brush, even though blowing embers ignore such clearing, and it actually stimulates the growth of flammable grasses.

Who gets a bite of that apple? Loggers, perhaps?
