Bear River JV blitzes Colfax, 40-6

One week after collecting his 150th career coaching victory, Duane Zauner smiled and said there haven’t been many in his 21 years at the helm of the Bruin junior varsity that were sweeter than No. 151.

“No, there haven’t been,” Zauner said moments after his Bruins downed the host Falcons 40-6 Friday night. “And there’s a reason this one is so great. This group has come so, so far in the last five weeks.

“In my 21 years, they’ve come as far as any group I’ve had.”

The Bruins closed out the season at 8-2 overall and earned a share of the PVL prize with a 5-1 league record.

Bear River scored on five of its first six possessions of the game Friday.

“In the first half, we executed everything perfectly right from the get-go,” Zauner said. “It was just a great team victory from everybody.

“I can’t name all the kids, but they all were great. The passing game was outstanding. The running game was outstanding.

“You know what? I think they’re ready to play varsity now.”
