Lake of the Pine’s Jackson Blashford, 17, with Boy Scout troop 783, received his Eagle rank advancement at an Eagle Board of Review on Tuesday.

Blashford started scouts at age 7 as a Tiger Cub, worked his way through Cub Scouts and now has achieved the rank of Eagle — a designation reached by only 4 percent of those who enter the scouting program.

Jackson’s Eagle Scout project was a storage shed made to benefit Hospitality House in Nevada City. The service project required leadership skills, coordination with adults, fundraising and supervision of scouts to help complete the project.

In addition to Boy Scouts, Blashford is a recent graduate of Bear River High School, where he participated in both water polo and swimming. Blashford hopes to parlay his love for water sports into a career in service to his country. Jackson has enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, where he will attend Helicopter Rescue Swimmer School.
