Bear River can’t stop the surging Hillmen
The Bear River baseball team was in the game early, but gave up a monster second inning in an 11-4 loss to host Placer of Auburn Wednesday.
The Bruins (8-6 overall, 3-5 Sierra Foothill League) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Keith Roberts lead off home run, but gave up three in the first and seven in the second to trail 10-1.
Bear River was outhit 12-7 and committed two errors.
Kody Keroher got the loss in an inning and a third’s work.
Craig Chandler went 2-for-3 with a double. Joey Mar went 2-for-2 with a RBI.
Matt Logue went 1-for-3 with a double.
Bear River will host Placer 3:30 p.m. Friday.
Falcons felled by Colfax
The Forest Lake Christian coed tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to host Colfax Wednesday.
In boys singles, FLC’s Josh Lehmer lost, 6-4, 6-1 to Duncan Benney; No.2 Chris Kerston was defeated by Elliot Evazkhani, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.
In girls singles, No.1 Malia Rose was defeated 6-4, 7-6, (8-6) by Eileen Phillips; No.2 Kathleen Donovan lost to Christina Ridel, 6-2, 6-3.
In boys doubles, FLC’s No.1 team of Nick Skibinsky and Mark Koch were defeated by Matt Witson and Ben Hickson, 10-6; the No.2 team of Andrew Hockinson and Scott Tracy were defeated by Jerod Hansen and Rick Schreiber, 10-4.
In girls singles, FLC’s No.1 team of Amy Lenhart and Molly Cooper were beaten 10-3 by Leonie Brecker and Lexie Berry; the No.2 team of Halley Booker and Emily Hall lost 10-3 to Laura Bosley and Meagan Maurer.
In mixed doubles, FLC’s James Ketchum and Jessica Lee lost to Beau Ulrich and Jenny Linn, 7-5.
FLC will play at Vanden of Fairfield 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
NU downs Bella Vista on courts
The Nevada Union boys tennis team defeated host Bella Vista of Fair Oaks 8-1 in Capital Athletic League action Wednesday.
In singles, NU’s Danny Lake dropped the No.1 match 6-2, 6-3 to Seth Spector; NU’s No.2 Peter Weisberg beat David Friedman, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3; No.3 Alex Wolfe defeated Trevor Dohn, 6-2, 6-0; No.4 Pat Schweigert beat Eric Ruben, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2; No.5 Will Dayton beat Trevor Kingsbury, 6-0, 6-1 and No.6 Jeff Kerr defeated Randy Allen 6-7, 6-3, 7-5.
In doubles, NU’s No.1 team of Marc Claydon and Jasper Howard defeated Eric Falkenstein and Amir Nogoumi, 7-6, 6-7, 7-5; the No.2 team of Daniel Sellery and Tulley Walker beat Consy Rowell and Neel Kotari, 6-2, 6-2; the No.3 team of Tristan Netherby and Nate Entrekin defeated Deepak Kollvaram and Nick Morin, 6-4, 6-3.
Miners win home volleyball match
Peter Sewell and Miles Holland had 18 kills apiece as the Nevada Union boys volleyball team beat visiting Granite Bay 13-15, 16-14, 15-13, 15-7 Wednesday.
“Granite Bay is a good team with a great block so we had to start tipping the ball and serving short to switch things up,” Miner (19-2 overall, 7-0 Metro League) head coach Bruce Grininger said.
Mike Feagans tallied a team-high 35 assists in the win.Tucker Thiesing had seven kills to go along with a team-high four blocks. Russel Nuffer turned in four aces. Sean Erion had four digs.
