Bates Frazee

Bates “Larry” Frazee, 81, of Grass Valley died Tuesday, March 21, at home.

In accordance with his wishes there will be no services.

Mr. Frazee was born May 8, 1924, in Brush, Colo., to Bates and Fay Frazee. He attended schools in San Diego, San Diego State University and College of the Pacific, Stockton. He served in the Bureau of Aeronautics from 1941 to 1943, in the South Pacific. He retired from the California Youth Authority in 1979, and worked for the State Personnel Board from 1980 to 1993. He married Helyn Claytor in 1995, in Grass Valley. He was a member of the Free Masons, and the Foresters. He was a professional water color artist, and a worldwide traveler.

He is survived by his wife, Helyn Frazee of Grass Valley; sons Jeffry Frazee of Grass Valley, Laurence Frazee of Grange, Idaho, Craig Claytor and family of San Diego; daughter, Chris Jerrue and family of Ridgefield, Wash.; grandsons Daniel and David Frazee of Grass Valley; granddaughter, Anna Lee Werkmeister and family of Folsom; and friends Robert and Liz Ekblad. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred in 1993; and son, Michael in 1990.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Foothills, or Sierra Services for the Blind

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper & Weaver Mortuary.
