Banner lookout

There was a good article on the front page of The Union, July 4, regarding the situation with the fire lookout on Banner Mountain. But there seemed to be something missing. Could it be something fell through the governmental crack?

We trust our safety personnel to do their job. I know that the fire towers are manned by volunteers because the state will not fund paid lookouts at all the towers! It’s like a blind person trying to drive a car ” you can’t see the smoke because of the trees. Next, some people might even suggest taking down the lookout. How idiotic. Cut the trees and be done with it. They grow at least a foot a year.

After witnessing the Angora fire, our forests need thinning. We need a fire lookout that functions at 100 percent. Stop sitting on your hands!
