Bands offer a chance to dance away your blues

Looking for a way to shake off those almost-end-of-summer blues? Dancing can do that, and there will be plenty of that when The Ford Blues Band and the Volker Strifler Band take to the stage Saturday night (Aug. 11) at The Center for the Arts in Grass Valley.

Patrick Ford has had the pleasure of working with many of the blues greats of the past four decades, including Charlie Musselwhite, Muddy Waters, Lightning Hopkins and Jimmy Witherspoon. With The Ford Blues band, he continues to bring a nontraditional approach to the blues idiom.

Volker Strifler does guitar and vocals with Ford’s band, but he also will open the evening with his own band. Strifler combined his bands from Germany and the U.S. to produce “The Dance Goes On,” a collection of mostly original songs.

The dancing begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20. For more information, call (530) 274-8384, ext. 14; e-mail;or go online at
