D’Arcy Reynolds has busy grant year ahead of her

D’Arcy Reynolds recently received two national music service organization grants, which as a result will keep her busy in the Lake of the Pines area and South Africa, as well.

A Nevada County resident since 1997, Reynolds has written orchestra, chamber orchestra, choral, chamber ensemble, vocal and piano works, starting in the late ’70s. She founded the American Composers Forum San Francisco Chapter in 1997 and is on the San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music board of directors.

The new Community Partners grant Reynolds was awarded from the American Composers Forum is for a composer residency at Magnolia Intermediate School during the 2004-05 school year.

Reynolds will teach composition and write a new piece for the

school concert band.

As a 2004 MTC Global Connections grant recipient, Reynolds will tour the coast of South Africa with the Sontonga String Quartet next April. While in residence at the University of Cape Town in South Africa, Reynolds will present a concert of her music and will lecture and coach chamber ensembles.

Reynolds will also hold all-ages workshops next month on Mondays at the Center for the Arts’ Off Center Stage in Grass Valley.

Workshop topics include team opera project, musicianship and composition.
