Baby returned to father after abduction

A nine month old infant has been returned safely to her father after her mother abducted the child from a day care facility violating a court order.

The mother and child were found several hours later at a motel in Auburn.

At 8:12 a.m. the Grass Valley Police Department received a call of a parental abduction from a Grass Valley child care facility.

The mother, Susan Schlueter, 45, was visiting her nine month old daughter Denali Vaughan at a child care facility when she violated her court order by fleeing the facility with the baby.

The woman was arrested last November after firing shots outside her Penn Valley home when she mistook her ex-boyfriend and six month old baby for a trespasser, said Sergeant John Kropp of the Nevada County Sheriff’s Department.

At 11:50 a.m., deputies from the Placer County Sheriff’s Department and Grass Valley Police Department detectives located Schlueter and the baby in a motel in Auburn where she was visiting her parents from Southern California.

Schlueter was booked into Wayne Brown Correctional Facility for parental kidnapping and violation of a court order. The woman was still incarcerated at 9 a.m. Thursday morning and bail was set for $15,000.

The child was returned to her father by detectives.
