Auditions planned for actors

“Make ’em laugh! Make ’em cry!” Theater folks will have their chance to do either – or both – as The Center for the Arts holds auditions for comedy improv and “The Grapes of Wrath.”

At 6 p.m. Nov. 4 and 7 p.m. Nov. 8, comic geniuses, both budding and seasoned, are invited to try out for the center’s comedy improv competition. Two teams of four will be selected to compete in various improvisational theater games, much like the popular TV show “Whose Line is it Anyway?” and San Jose Comedy Sportz.

Local improv guru Richard Winters will coach rehearsals for the actors selected from auditions to prepare them for the competitions. The shows are scheduled for Dec. 16 and for Jan. 20, 2007, at the Off Center Stage. Call Tyler at 274-8384 ext. 15, for more about this.

On the dramatic side, director Diane Fetterly and musical director Sands Hall will hold auditions for the powerful and deeply affecting stage version of John Steinbeck’s masterpiece “The Grapes of Wrath” at 7 p.m. Nov. 6-7 with callbacks at 7 p.m. Nov. 8.

Performance dates for the show are Feb. 7-25, 2007. Rehearsals will begin in December for family roles, in January for other cast members. Roles are available for male and female actors and musician/actors, ages 10-75. Perusal scripts are available at The Center for the Arts, 314 W. Main St, Grass Valley. Musicians should bring instruments and be prepared to sing a simple song. No monologues are required, but there will be cold readings from the script. Call 265-8534 for more information.
