Artist’s subject ‘mark-making’

Mary Street will give a slide presentation on the “Evolution of a Line” at the ArtTalk in Grass Valley today.

Exhibited nationwide, Street’s art is in corporate and private collections, including those of Nokia Corp., Bank of America and New Mexico State University.

Her presentation will focus on composition elements that recur throughout her fiber designs, sculptural artist books, woodcut prints on her own handmade paper, monoprints and paintings on canvas.

“Over time, an artist develops a personal vocabulary of composition, which is like handwriting,” Street said.

“It’s that mark-making which evolves and appears in surprising ways and keeps the fascination fresh for me when I’m creating,” she said.

A graduate of the California College of Arts & Crafts, Street has lived in Nevada County for 15 years.

The ArtTalk is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Admission is $5.

Julie Baker Fine Art is at 120 N. Auburn St., Suite A. Call 273-0910 for reservations.
