Artists celebrate color

Shown here is Sergio Martinez, a master Zapotec weaver, colorist and rug designer from Oaxaca, Mexico, at his loom. He shares the billing in A Celebration of Color: A Two Artist Show with painter Cynthia Schildhauer at Lilly Vigil Gallery in Nevada City. The show’s opening and reception is on Saturday, June 9, 4-6:30 p.m., at 214 Broad St. Both artists will give a demonstration: Martinez of weaving and Schildhauer of the method of encaustic painting, an ancient method that uses heated bees wax, pigment and various resins. Her work is held in more than 125 private and corporate collections.
