Artistic awards conferred

The Northern California Artistic Achievement Awards, known as the Grassies, will be handed out Saturday evening at Stonehouse Restaurant in Nevada City.

Eighteen awards will be presented, covering such areas as: Best Independent Band; Best Horror Music; Best Child Artist; and Lifetime Achievement.

The Media Award goes to Prospector, and I will be at Stonehouse, along with The Union’s Editor Jeff Pelline and his wife, to accept the honor. So please join us.

Scheduled from 5:30 to 9 p.m., the event also includes live performances by musicians throughout the state, hors d’ oeuvres, and a no-host bar.

While there is no cost, donations will be accepted.

The restaurant is located at 107 Sacramento St.

The Grassies were founded in 2007 by two local musicians, Andy Gonzales, a Nevada County promotions expert, and Joel D. Canfield, a Placer County business consultant.

Visit the Web site on-line at for more information. You may contact Andy Gonzales at (530) 613-2803 or e-mail
