Art show in local home

For two weekends in a row, Sacramento artist Nina Krebs will exhibit her show, “The Legacy of SPIDER WOMAN, Tending Connection” at the Grass Valley home of Ruth Ghio.

Krebs’ installations and mixed media works, inspired by creation stories native to the Southwestern United States featuring SPIDER WOMAN and her granddaughters, as well as pieces by wood artists Judy and Hank Wavers, will be set up out doors.

A talk and slide show complements the art on Saturday at 3 p.m. Anthropologist Carol Patterson of Colorado, author of “On the Trail of Spider Woman” published in 1997, will present it.

The following weekend on June 28 Marilyn Clark performs nature-inspired percussion music and on June 29, Joey McCutchan performs Latin music.

Krebs was raised in Arizona by a native American woman from the Tonoho O’odham tribe.

Says the artist, “I slept at her two-room adobe ‘apartment’ occasionally, ate hand-patted tortillas cooked on her wood stove, visited the Hopi mesas with her and her friends to attend ceremonial dances.

From her, I learned early about the power of silence and telling the truth.”

Krebs’ professional career as a psychologist spanned three decades and focused on treating the psychological sufferings of individuals and organizations; she retired from it 10 years ago to explore art.
