Arson investigators looking into fire that seriously burned man

A Nevada County man is in critical condition today after being seriously burned in a weekend fire, the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office said today.

Eric Elliott, 38, was injured during a blaze on the 19400 block of Tiger Lilly Lane off Rattlesnake Road Saturday morning. The fire destroyed a maintenance shop on the site and was hot enough to bend its metal girders, Sheriff Keith Royal said in a statement.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the State Fire Marshal’s Office and arson investigators.

The sheriff’s office said the home previously had been searched by authorities, who reportedly found explosives. Some of the people at the property had a history of drug use, as well, according to Royal’s statement.

Elliott was transported to the UC Davis Medical Center burn unit in Sacramento via helicopter.
