Behind the ideas and efforts toward building a better world, volunteers fuel a movement of compassion and connection. You can make a difference by volunteering right here in your community. By sharing your time and talents to help others, you can help bring a sense of hope to our hearts, homes, neighborhoods, and ultimately our nation.
Everyone is invited to share their time and talents with Nevada County non-profits, public agencies, and schools. For persons 55 and over, accident, liability, and excess auto insurance are provided and limited mileage reimbursement is available. Gold Country Computer Learning Center registrar/receptionist
The Computer Learning Center at the Nevada County Fairgrounds is looking for help answering phones, directing questions, giving current class information and registering class attendees. Shifts are three hours during the week. If you have good organization skills and a friendly personable manner, please consider offering your time to this wonderful nonprofit organization.
Summer day camp leaders
Planning is underway for this Penn Valley camp sponsored by the Partners Family Resource Center. Many folks are needed to assist with arts & crafts, music, games, snacks and more. Dates are: June 24-28 and July 8-12. Your volunteer efforts will ensure an affordable, educational and fun camp experience accessible to all children.
Museum Gift Shop attendants and museum docents
The North Star Mining Museum in Grass Valley is a local treasure! Several volunteers are needed to help with staffing the new gift shop during the hours from 10 a.m. to 4 Tuesday to Sunday. This position is well suited for someone who enjoys sharing our local history with visitors, has a pleasant manner and a talent for sales and organizing gift shop displays. Docents are also needed to assist visitors to our area learn about rich cultural heritage. Training is provided.
Spread the word for ‘Read-Up’
Contribute your creative energy and good communication skills to strengthen literacy for Nevada County adults by becoming the “Read-Up” program’s Literacy Outreach Coordinator. Educate our community citizens and leaders about the devastating impact of illiteracy on people’s lives and the wonderful success stories of tutoring. Call for a detailed job description. If you are outgoing, a good communicator and believe in literacy, this is the volunteer job for you!
Quality improvement guru
Sierra Nevada Regional Department of Child Support is looking for someone who can share their business analyst skills in the areas of quality improvement and marketing. The job duties include reviewing current processes, suggesting methods of quality improvement from a business standpoint and assisting in finding ways to reach out to customers regarding services offered. Be the “fresh eyes” for this agency by sharing your expertise.
Help make history come to life!
The Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad Museum is looking for volunteers to help at their wonderful museum in Nevada City. It is happily growing, and with more volunteers, it will be able to keep the museum open more days per week. There are a number of ways to help: Gift Shop volunteer, museum docent, special events coordinator and more. This is a great group of dedicated volunteers who help others learn of our rich history and cultural heritage in Nevada County. Come be a part of it!
Elder Care Providers Coalition secretary
The mission of the Elder Care Providers Coalition is to provide an open forum for professional care providers in order that they may enhance the quality of services for the frail elderly and their caregivers. A minute-taker, is needed for monthly meetings which take place the second Wednesday of each month from noon to 1:30 p.m. This is a wonderful way to use your skills to support the work of this very worthwhile nonprofit group.
Be a match for the Business Ignitor Program
This grassroots local non-profit helps creates real Nevada County jobs by educating and encouraging local entrepreneurs. Volunteer help is needed in a variety of areas, including social media and marketing, fund development, class registration coordinator, administrative and clerical assistance. Computer skills are required.
Is there a ‘thrifter’ in your family?
Send them out to volunteer at their favorite shop! A number of local thrift stores are in need of volunteers to assist with sorting and pricing merchandise, re-stocking, cashiering and more. Shifts are mornings or afternoons Monday through Friday, four hours weekly. Volunteering ensures that all contributions go directly back to the community to support the nonprofits.
Coordinators needed for animal rescue group
A last-chance animal rescue nonprofit would love assistance with the coordination of its volunteers. The interest and willingness to work with people who want to help animals is the basic requirement. Some office time and computer skills are helpful. A second coordinator is needed to help organize fundraising events. Some experience in putting on events and fundraising are the skills needed for this important volunteer job. This is a 100 percent volunteer organization doing valuable work in our community for our homeless animals.
Caring compassionate hospital volunteers
The hospital auxiliary is looking for caring, compassionate, dependable volunteers to join the organization. There are so many interesting volunteer positions available. A few examples include: Gift Shop, Cancer Center, Emergency Department, Diagnostic Imaging, Main Lobby, Nursing Floor and more.
School of Care — Gathering resources, supporting care
This nonprofit supports caregivers as well as those seeking care with resources and education. An administrative support volunteer is needed as well as board members with experience in the health care and caregiving arena.
