Current Volunteer Opportunities

Behind the ideas and efforts toward building a better world, volunteers fuel a movement of compassion and connection. You can make a difference by volunteering right here in your community. By sharing your time and talents to help others, you can help bring a sense of hope to our hearts, homes, neighborhoods, and ultimately our nation.

Everyone is invited to share their time and talents with Nevada County non-profits, public agencies, and schools. For persons 55 and over, accident, liability, and excess auto insurance are provided and limited mileage reimbursement is available. Be a Part of the “Holiday Cheer Team”

Holiday Cheer is an annual volunteer project whose goal is to deliver gift packages to approximately 140 homebound seniors during the holidays. There are many opportunities to help including assembling gift bags, baking cookies, delivering the gift bags and helping to obtain donations of items.

We are looking for volunteer “Team Members” to form a committee to help lead the various tasks required to facilitate the project for the upcoming holiday season. If you have leadership and organizational skills, this could be a rewarding opportunity to help homebound seniors in our community.

Home Delivered Meals Drivers Needed

There is an urgent need for at least 4 additional regular drivers as well as substitute drivers. This is a few hour time commitment once a week or on a substitute basis delivering noon time meals to home-bound seniors. This is a great way to help your Nevada County neighbors and provide a wonderful and much needed service. This is a great activity for couples or friends to do together.

Enjoy Cooking? Love Working with Seniors? Your Help is Needed!

Helping Hands Caregiver Resource in Penn Valley needs someone to help during the lunch hour as a Kitchen Assistant/Cook. This is a 2 to 3 month volunteer position. You would be helping to prepare meals for 15-30 people with the foods that are available on Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Call RSVP for additional information.

Activity Assistants are also needed to help staff with games and activities, visit with participants, serve lunch, clean up and have fun! If you enjoy working with seniors and people with disabilities, please consider becoming a Helping Hands volunteer.

Have a Heart For Veterans?

Welcome Home Vets provides advocacy for veterans and their families, and works to increase community awareness of the problem of military-related psychological trauma and its effects on the veteran, the family and the community. This dynamic nonprofit is looking for assistance in their new downtown Grass Valley office. Those experienced with Microsoft Office Suite are particularly desired. Board members are also needed, particularly those with a financial services background. Call RSVP for more information.

MOPS of Grass Valley

A Grass Valley Mothers of Pre-Schoolers group needs volunteers to assist with child care while mothers are attending meetings on site. Children range in age from 4 months to 5 years. Meeting times are the 1st, 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month from 8:40 to 11:40 am and are located at the Abundant Life Community Church on Alta Street in Grass Valley.

If you enjoy interacting and spending time with young children, this is a wonderful opportunity to support a program that encourages, equips and develops young mothers to be successful.

Feeding Families, Fueling Hope

Volunteers with a variety of skills are needed to assist Interfaith Food Ministry in their mission to provide supplemental food to Nevada County families in need of assistance. Several specific volunteer positions need to be filled including, Tuesday morning packers, drivers to pick up food at local grocery stores, event coordinators, scheduling assistant and more. Also, IFM’s annual Operation Turkey Drive is just around the corner. If you have a few hours to spare each week, call RSVP to find out more.

Compassionate Care Volunteers Needed

A four day training in October will prepare you to work with hospice patients, families and caregivers. You will receive all of the tools and tips you need to create an enriching volunteer experience for yourself and those you serve. In addition to patient care, there are a number of other volunteer opportunities available including musicians, pet visitation, massage, thrift store, and office support. Chamber Office Help Needed in Grass Valley & South County

Do you love living in the Nevada County and want to share your knowledge and enthusiasm for the area with others? The South County and Grass Valley Chambers of Commerce would love to have your help! Responsibilities include greeting visitors and answering phones and email. Available shifts include: Tuesdays & Fridays from 10-12 and 12-2pm at the South County office and anytime between 9-5pm M/T/Th. at the Grass Valley Chamber office.

Are You Ready to Read-Up?

Read-Up is the Nevada County Adult Literacy Program with locations in both Truckee and Nevada City. Volunteers must be able to read, write and speak English well, be patient, flexible, and have good communication skills and know how to listen. Time commitment is two hours per week. If you have a desire to help interested students realize their potential,

ESL/Literacy tutoring is an enjoyable and productive way to give back to your community.
