Be a ‘fix-it’ volunteer

We have a significant need for volunteers with handy person and home repair skills. FREED Center for Independent Living helps people live safely and independently in their homes, and volunteers help make that happen. Projects range from grab bar installations, and minor plumbing or electrical repairs.

Event Volunteer Committee

United Way needs volunteers to help plan annual events and to help create a brand new signature event. United Way’s service priority is to strive to assure individuals and families in Nevada County are able to meet their basic needs for food, emergency shelter and access to health care. If you are creative, this position may be perfect for you.

Court Appointed Special Advocate

March 30th is the next orientation to become a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA). You will be trained to work directly with a child who has been removed from their home because of abuse or neglect. Working with the child’s family, social worker, and the court, a CASA listens, learns, and advocates on behalf of the child.

Railroad docent

Share your love of railroads and give informative talks regarding Nevada County history as a docent for the railroad museum in Nevada City. Training is provided. You must enjoy working with children.

Wood yard supervisor

The Senior Firewood Program is a volunteer activity that has provided free firewood to low-income seniors and individuals with disabilities in the Grass Valley and Nevada City area since 1982. Supervise a group of dedicated volunteers that split, stack and deliver wood. Your work will keep over 124 households warm.

Office support

Learn first-hand about volunteer coordination. Assist office staff with filing documents, organizing binders, answering phones, and other clerical support as needed. Computer and strong organizational skills are required.

Event coordinator

A volunteer coordinator/supervisor is needed to help organize volunteers that distribute holiday food at Easter. Duties include scheduling and planning food distribution with other community agencies to coordinate events. If you have some experience with event planning and are able to deal simultaneously with multiple issues, this position could be for you.

Board members

United Way needs your passion, enthusiasm and work experience to become part of a board that raises money for a broad spectrum of community partners. The ideal candidates have government, sales, accounting, or local business experience.

Webmaster

Do you have experience in website development and knowledge of Dreamweaver? The Interfaith Food Ministry needs your help with website development and maintenance.

CPA/Accountant

Put your accounting skills to good work by volunteering for the North Gold Senior Mountaineers. Assist in preparation of a first time audit, so this senior center may obtain future funding through grants. Work can be done at your home.

After school drivers

The Friendship Club engages, educates, and empowers girls at risk. Drivers help bring girls from their schools to the Friendship Club so they may attend after school meetings. Drivers may also transport girls on local field trips, community activities, or mini-camps during the school year and the summer. This is a short-term volunteer position.

Committed mentors

Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Nevada County and North Lake Tahoe are looking for a few volunteers that can offer their time and caring to help boys that need some extra care. This position requires at least one hour a week and a one year commitment. They also need someone to match with a 10-year-old girl.

Help serve our veterans

Are you interested in making a difference in the life of a young vet or an older vet who still struggles with PTSD? Welcome Home Vets supports veterans and the families of those vets who are walking the path back home with their families. Currently, there are multiple open positions including a Special Events Coordinator, Intake and Referral Specialist, and Donation Coordinator.

For persons 55 and over, accident, liability and excess auto insurance are provided. Limited mileage reimbursement is available. If you are interested in any of the positions, e-mail us at rsvp3@nccn.net or call weekdays 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 530-271-0255. RSVP is part of the Corporation for National and Community Service and sponsored locally by the Area 4 Agency on Aging.
