Holiday Cheer needs drivers, cookie makers, and gift packers
Help bring holiday cheer to many home bound seniors in Nevada County. Volunteer as a group activity or on your own. Your help is needed in many areas. This is a wonderful way to spread joy throughout our community.
Grass Valley Police
The Grass Valley Police Department needs your help with various tasks for the department. Whether its car and foot patrol or traffic and crowd control for special events; act as their “eyes and ears” to help keep our community safe.
Looking for a volunteer opportunity Tuesday afternoons?
HelpLine Senior Information and Assistance and telephone reassurance needs your communication skills to connect seniors to local health and social services. Answer phones, make outgoing calls, and be comfortable using a computer. HelpLine is located in the RSVP offices. Volunteer needed Tuesday, 12:30 to 4 p.m.
If you enjoy cooking and serving for a group of 12 to 30 girls, come to The Friendship Club. Prepare a healthy, nutritious snack for middle school and/or high school girls from our community. Availability: Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday afternoons from 2 to 5:30 p.m.
Healthy Harvest gardeners
The Food Bank of Nevada County is harvesting vegetables for distribution to their clients and partner agencies. Between now and December, they need your help. No gardening experience is necessary; just the desire to help feed the needy.
One route once a month
The Food Bank of Nevada County delivers food to home bound individuals once a month. A few drivers are needed for the morning route; the third Wednesday of every month. Volunteers each take a route with seven or eight individuals on it. Car or truck needed with enough room to hold eight boxes and bags of fresh produce. Can you lend a hand?
Nevada County Housing Department needs a temporary office assistant to scan housing files and do light computer data entry. Days and hours are flexible.
Share your computer skills
Love social networking? Help our seniors come into the new age by coaching and teaching them to use Facebook, Twitter, and more. Classes also offered in Windows 7 and 8, Macs, tablets and phones. No senior left behind!
Tutoring: math, reading, science
Classroom assistants needed to work with elementary and middle school students. Share your knowledge with students that need help with their ‘basic skills’. In all situations, the classroom teacher is present while the volunteer is assisting students.
Putting wheels in motion
Work with middle school students in a state of the art bicycle repair facility. The Bicycle Recycle Project at Seven Hills School in Nevada City provides students with hands-on learning of basic bicycle mechanical skills, reinforces the value of recycling, and provides the satisfaction of helping others.
Hospice of the Foothills needs clerical volunteers to help with filing, phones, computer entry, and general organizational support. Volunteers are needed every day. Excellent computer skills, good communication and organizational skills are needed.
Home delivered meal drivers
If you enjoy helping seniors, and can follow written and visual driving directions, the Home Delivered Meals program needs your help. Drivers are needed for routes Monday through Friday. It takes only 2 ½ hours once a week to provide nourishment and care.
For persons 55 and over, accident, liability and excess auto insurance are provided. Limited mileage reimbursement is available.
