Behind the ideas and efforts toward building a better world, volunteers fuel a movement of compassion and connection.
You can make a difference by volunteering in your community. By sharing your time and talents to help others, you can help bring a sense of hope to our hearts, homes, neighborhoods, and ultimately our nation.
Everyone is invited to share their time and talents with Nevada County nonprofits, public agencies, and schools. For persons 55 and over, accident, liability, and excess auto insurance are provided and limited mileage reimbursement is available.

Be a part of ‘Holiday Cheer Team’
Holiday Cheer is an annual volunteer project whose goal is to deliver gift packages to approximately 140 homebound seniors during the holidays. There are many opportunities to help including assembling gift bags, baking cookies, delivering the gift bags and helping to obtain donations of items.
We are looking for volunteer team members to form a committee to help lead the various tasks required to facilitate the project for the upcoming holiday season.

Needs include: Sorting, pricing/tagging and hanging clothes, straightening and stock merchandise cleaning merchandise, painting and repurposing merchandise, cashier displays (design/decorating experience a plus), and pick-ups and deliveries.
Board position: Partners in English Language Learning
Hundreds of Nevada County residents who are not native speakers of English feel lost when asking for directions, reading product labels, filling out job applications, talking to their children’s teachers, or making medical appointments.
These hard-working, motivated families represent a growing number of adults living in our community, often invisible, who want to learn to improve or refine their English speaking and reading skills. The Partners in English Language Learning program is seeking board members to help sustain their dynamic program. Volunteers are needed with a variety of skills in business and financial management.
Home-deliver meals to seniors
There is an urgent need for at least four additional regular drivers as well as substitute drivers. This is a few hour time commitment once a week or on a substitute basis delivering noon time meals to homebound seniors. This is a great way to help your Nevada County neighbors and provide a wonderful and much-needed service.
Cook and help seniors
Helping Hands Caregiver Resource in Penn Valley needs someone to help during the lunch hour as a kitchen assistant/cook. This is a 2- to 3-month volunteer position. You would be helping to prepare meals for 15-30 people with the foods that are available from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Friday.
Activity assistants are also needed to help staff with games and activities, visit with participants, serve lunch, clean up and have fun.
Have a heart for veterans?
Welcome Home Vets provides advocacy for veterans and their families, and works to increase community awareness of the problem of military-related psychological trauma and its effects on the veteran, the family and the community. This dynamic nonprofit is looking for assistance in their new downtown Grass Valley office. Those experienced with Microsoft Office Suite are particularly desired.
Board members are also needed, particularly those with a financial services background.
MOPS of Grass Valley
A Grass Valley Mothers of Pre-Schoolers group needs volunteers to assist with child care while mothers are attending meetings on site. Children range in age from 4 months to 5 years. Meeting times are 8:40 to 11:40 a.m. the first, second and fourth Tuesday of each month and are located at the Abundant Life Community Church on Alta Street in Grass Valley.
If you enjoy interacting and spending time with young children, this is a wonderful opportunity to support a program that encourages, equips and develops young mothers to be successful.
Feed families, fuel hope
Volunteers with a variety of skills are needed to assist Interfaith Food Ministry in their mission to provide supplemental food to Nevada County families in need of assistance. Several specific volunteer positions need to be filled including, Tuesday morning packers, drivers to pick up food at local grocery stores, event coordinators, scheduling assistant and more.
Also, IFM’s annual Operation Turkey Drive is just around the corner. If you have a few hours to spare each week, call RSVP.
Chamber office help needed
Do you love living in the Nevada County and want to share your knowledge and enthusiasm for the area with others? The South County and Grass Valley Chambers of Commerce would love to have your help! Responsibilities include greeting visitors and answering phones and email.
Available shifts include: 10 a.m. to noon and noon to 2 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays at the South County office and anytime between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at the Grass Valley Chamber office.
