Financial workshop for youth, parents set for Friday evening

Many young people – and their parents – don’t know how to balance a checkbook, maintain a household budget or manage debt.

Financial literacy will be the theme for assemblies at local high schools and a workshop for the public on Friday, Oct. 8.

Speakers that day will cover topics including budgeting and avoiding mountainous debt.

The public workshop is set for 7:30 to 9 p.m. Friday at Miners Foundry Cultural Center, 325 Spring St., downtown Nevada City.

The evening workshop is free, but donations are encouraged to help fund future student financial literacy programs in public schools.

Space is still available. To RSVP to the evening presentation, call Patty Lum at Ostrofe Financial Consultants Inc., (530) 273-4425.

Guest speakers include Vince Shorb, president of the National Youth Financial Educator’s Council, and Fritz Meyer, a leading economic and markets analyst and frequent guest on CNBC, Bloomberg TV and Fox Business News.

The events are being underwritten by Grass Valley-based Ostrofe Financial Consultants Inc.
