Palestine-Israel Working Group of Nevada County

PIWG advocates for human rights, equality and justice for all in Palestine and Israel. We meet on the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. Everyone who is interested in peace in the Middle East is welcome to join us. We are having our fund-raising yard sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at 517 Nevada St. in Nevada City. The yard sale proceeds are for the benefit of our Nevada County Chapter Maia Project which will install a water purification and desalination unit to the Naseam Kindergarten in Nuseirat Refugee Camp in the Gaza Strip.

We are planning for a visit from Dorothy Naor April 30. Dorothy is an American-born Jewish Israeli human rights activist who has lived in Israel for more than 50 years.

The meeting takes place in a private home. Please call 530-713-1131 for directions.

We also maintain a weekly vigil of Women and Men in Black Thursdays, 5:15 to 6:00 p.m. on the Broad Street bridge in Nevada City.

49er Pony Club

We are hosting an open barn day from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Oak Tree Farm, 17031 Piper Lane in Penn Valley. The 49er Pony Club is open to all ages, but members must have access to a horse. But the club is not just about horse sports, it’s also about having fun, making friends and learning to become a leader.

Activities help members learn to become team members and build self-confidence. Barn Day will include fun horse information such as grooming, safety, a trail safety speaker, parent information and details on our new adult horsemaster program. Member’s horses will be giving pony rides on a lead line. Hot dogs, baked goods and horse cookies will be onhand.

Friends of Hospice

Are you looking for a special something to commemorate a graduation or to celebrate a family, to honor a troop or just to tell someone you love them?

Follow the Pave the Way bricks and take a walk around Hospice of the Foothills Compassionate Care Center to read the lovely memorials that work around the grounds. They read, “I Love You,” “We Miss You,” “You Are Always In Our Heart,” “Congratulations,” “Just Great” and many other memorials and recognitions that are on this walk.

This ongoing fundraiser allows the donor to designate an inscription to be etched on a brick with their own name, in memory of a loved one, to honor a family member, friend, military person or unit, or a business as a tribute and are installed around the walkways of the HOF Compassionate Care Center. A lovely gift of remembrance in a beautiful setting, and it all benefits Hospice of the Foothills. Phone the FOH office for more information at 530-274-5121.
