Anniversaries: Bakers celebrate 50 years

William and Margaret Baker of Nevada City recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

William and Margaret Baker of Nevada City celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 23. Their family arranged a luncheon for family, long-time friends, and members of the wedding party at the Holbrooke Hotel in Grass Valley. The Bakers were married in 1966, at Temple Methodist Church in Daly City.

Margaret (Schneider) was born in San Diego, attended Jefferson High School in Daly City and graduated from the University of California at Berkeley. She worked as a registered nurse at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital prior to her retirement.

William was born in San Francisco, attended San Leandro High School and graduated from the University of California at Berkeley. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service for 38 years and retired as a forest environmental planner for the Tahoe National Forest.

The couple met in 1962 on a group bowling date during semester break at Berkeley. They lived in adjoining dormitories.

The Bakers have two children, daughter Valerie and husband Richard, son Jonathan and wife Cyndi, and five grandchildren.
