Ann Weitzel

Services for Ann E. Weitzel of Grass Valley will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Nevada City chapel of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary. A reception will follow.

Mrs. Weitzel died Friday, Jan. 17, in Grass Valley. She was 77.



She was born on May 31, 1925, in Willibough, Ohio, to Alice and Lewis Gonyea. She married Howard Weitzel on Dec. 25, 1948, on Coronado Island. She worked for Crocker-Wells Fargo Bank in new accounts for 20 years. She joined the Newcomers Club of Grass Valley in 1997 and enjoyed their craft club, garden club and knitting club. She was also a member of the Evangeline Chapter No. 9, Order of Eastern Star in Nevada City and attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and St. Canice Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling to Oahu, Hawaii, where she and her husband were stationed in the 1950s and where they later celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. They visited again in September of 2002.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Howard Weitzel of Grass Valley; daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Thomas Bumgarner of Grass Valley; and grandsons Zachariah and Joshua Bumgarner, both of Grass Valley.




Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Aid Thrift Shop in Grass Valley.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
