Amy Goodman’s book tour heading for Grass Valley

Amy Goodman, host of “Democracy NOW!” and author of “The Exception To The Rulers,” will give two lecture benefits for Community Radio KVMR (FM- 89.5) in August.

Those dates are Aug. 22 at the Don Baggett Theatre in Grass Valley and Aug. 23 at the Crest Theatre in downtown Sacramento. Both presentations begin at 7:30 p.m.

The lectures are expected to sell out early, said Richard Gorman, KVMR’s development director, last week.

The daily news magazine program “Democracy NOW!” airs on hundreds of radio and TV stations throughout the country. Its KVMR time slot is Mondays through Fridays at 6 p.m.

Goodman’s book, “The Exception to the Rulers,” is a fast-paced expose on the struggles of “the silenced majority.”

According to Gorman, the New York Times called Goodman a “reporter who’s not easy-listening.” The Indonesian military banned her and named her a “threat to national security,” and former President Bill Clinton called her “hostile, combative and even disrespectful.”

Admission for either lecture is $20 general, $15 for KVMR members and $12 for students. Tickets are at BriarPatch, Record Connection, Yabobo and the KVMR business office.

Call KVMR at 265-9073 for more information.
