Alleged gunman turns self in to jail, faces attempted murder charges

A man suspected of shooting a married couple in Butte County before fleeing in their vehicle turned himself in at the Nevada County Jail.

Michael Bills, 57, allegedly shot Sandra and Allen Campbell in Berry Creek Sunday afternoon. Officials at the jail said they took him into custody on $3 million bail, and then released him to Butte County deputies this morning.

The Campbells both placed 911 calls after the shooting and were treated for gunshot wounds, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies recovered the Campbells’ stolen 1991 Toyota Camry, according to the Oroville Mercury-Register.
