Alice Lorraine Murray died May 17 at Golden Empire Convalescent Hospital. She was 90.

Services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, May 30, at New Elm Cemetery in Grass Valley. Burial will take place at New Elm Cemetery.

Mrs. Murray was born Aug. 12, 1917, in Roosevelt, Okla., to Eugene Preston and Bettie (Riley) Preston. She attended Compton Junior College. She married Philip J. Murray on Dec. 1, 1957, in Grass Valley.

Mrs. Murray worked for DeWitt State Hospital in Auburn. She was a member of Eastern Star, Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Pink Ladies, Nevada City Garden Club, various crafts groups, and various animal humane groups. She enjoyed crafts, gardening, babysitting her grandchildren, and sewing.

Mrs. Murray is survived by her son and daughter in-law, Verne and Carole Browning of Grass Valley; grandsons and wives David and Margie Browning of Grass Valley and Vincent and Clarisa Browning of Pennsylvania; great-grandchildren Heather and Jason Browning of Pennsylvania, and nephew and wife Robert and Deanne Preston of Georgia.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip James Murray; mother, Bettie Preston; father, Eugene Preston, and brother, Eugene Preston.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary in Nevada City.
