Alfred Barnewitz

Memorial services for Alfred William Barnewitz of Grass Valley will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Church, at the corner of High and Nevada streets in Nevada City.

Mr. Barnewitz died Friday, Aug. 27, at home. He was 91.

He was born Jan. 18, 1913, in Vallejo to Alfred William and Mary Olive (Chalmers) Barnewitz. He graduated from Vallejo High School. He married Mary Libbey on Aug. 31, 1957, in Nevada City. He worked as an estimator and project manager for Nevada and California construction companies for 55 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the San Francisco Giants, gardening and cooking.



He is survived by his wife, Mary Barnewitz of Grass Valley; sons William Barnewitz of Milwaukee, Wis., and John Barnewitz; daughters Mary Elizabeth Barnewitz of Reno, Nev., Carol Osborn of Stockton and Victoria of San Jose; sister, Virginia Baker of Santa Rosa; niece, RaeAnna Williams of Santa Rosa; granddaughters Molly and Kate Barnewitz; and grandson, Kevin Cooney of Stockton.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
