Agency shop vote in Nevada County

This letter refers to the article published in The Union on Sept. 25 concerning the recent establishment of an agency shop for Nevada County employees.

I have worked for Nevada County Behavioral Health as a psychotherapist for nearly 20 years and have been a shop steward for the professional unit for the past seven years. The article implied that a large number of Behavioral Health employees were opposed to an agency shop and to unions in general. For the record, the majority of Behavioral Health employees belonged to the union prior to the vote for an agency shop. Up until very recently, the overwhelming majority of employees from this department were members of Local 39.
