Afrobeat music extravaganza returns

An annual benefit For Kids in Darfur returns for a third year with extra funk. While they play in Santa Cruz July 14, and Santa Monica July 21, it’s on the weekend of July 28 and 29 that a whole mess of bands will come to San Francisco. Sila and the Afrofunk Experience (headlines both nights), Baba Ken and Afro-groove Connexion (opens 7/28), Afrobeat Down (opens 7/29), DJ Jeremiah and the Afrobeat Nation (opens 7/29) will all perform at The independent, 628 Divisadero St., San Francisco. Their concerts have sold out, perhaps because, besides being great Afrofunk, the concert’s proceeds benefit Save the Children Fund’s Sudan Crisis Relief Fund.

Tickets are $17 for general admission and $45 VIP and are available at tickweb.com. Go to http://theindependentsf.com for more information.
